citation: Newbold, Mehta, Forbus “University Commuter Student: Time Management, Stress Factors, and Coping Strategies”.

summary:
This article is able to give a perspective of the benefits and disadvantages of commuting. The different ways in which people are able to handle stress and use time management. Also, it mentions the type of transport the person has to use when commuting. Some might have to take the bus, the train, and others might have their own car making the commute somewhat easier. Transportation also means money. How much money they will need to pay for transportation or for gas plus insurance if the car is owned. The time that is consumed in traffic, distance, and finding parking. This article overall compares and contrast how life is truly different for those students who live on campus and those who commute. The commuter might have a harder transition and tougher time but many times great skills are learned. On the other hand, the resident student might suffer from stress and will have more distractions at school.

Authors:

"Stress levels among commuter students were perceived moderately high, and financial issues are one of the biggest contributors to stress" (Canales-Gonzales & Kranz 2008)

"The commuting students tackles challenges that the non-commuting student typically doesn’t face, especially feelings of isolation, multiple life roles and different support systems." (Newbold, Mehta, and Forbus, 2010)

"The significants aspects which differentiated commuter students who were achieving controllable work/life/study balance appeared to be their coping strategies and the level of support from their families, employers, fellow students and from the institution. (Lowe & Gayle, 2007) (page 142)

value:
This article is valuable because it shows the positive and negative side os commuters. It shows that commuting has a big influence in bettering time management for those who also have a job and other responsibilities.  On the other side, it mentions that sometimes not knowing how to manage school time with working hours and responsibilities can cause more stress. This article also mentions the high amount of energy and sacrifice that comes with commuting. Many times several trips have to be made to school during a day or during the week. If a class involves group projects or an item that can only be used at the library it becomes the students responsibility to go back to campus and be part of it if she or he wants to receive credit for the assignment.
